What is the origin of Father's Day?

Celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June, Father's Day is an opportunity to offer a nice gift to your father to remind him how much he matters in our lives. But do you know where this family ritual comes from? ?

A surprising origin

The origin of Father's Day in France is quite surprising! In 1950, Marcel Quercia, then director of the Breton lighter company Flaminaire, was desperately looking for an idea to boost his sales. The month of June was a very slow period for the company. Marcel decided to target fathers and launched an advertising campaign “Father's Day? Give him a Flaminaire, the lighter that keeps all its promises!” It was a success for the Breton company, which saw its sales aimed at fathers take off. Father's Day was launched! In 1952, a decree definitively made Father's Day official throughout France.
